So much for my promise!

More than a month has passed since my last post, how useless am I??

As promised, my experiments first.  I decided to try to use some of the paper which was otherwise wasted on my failed paintings, so I obliterated one disaster with gesso and set to work with more watercolour.  It's a great exercise in loosening up and it was fun!

Mellow Yellow - Watercolour on Gesso, 15" x 11"

Gesso allows you to build up texture and you can also lift pigment right back to the white of the gesso so if you don't like something, just wet it and lift off!  It's not something I'll do every day, but as a fun exercise it's well worth trying occasionally.

Hi Ruth. I'm new to your blog and after reading your post I was wondering if you have tried the new Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground yet. I love using it on canvas. Your work is beautiful! Inspiring.

Hi Toni, thanks for your message. I haven't tried it, how successful is it on canvas, and do you have to varnish the painting afterwards? It does sound interesting.

Thanks everyone, sometimes the experiments work, others not!!!

Em!!! I've been admiring your blog and wishing I could do the things you do! I would say that the learning curve on altered books is going to be long and steep, with me slipping back down regularly. I've tried gel transfers with limited success, but my biggest problem is letting go and letting my imagination take over. I'll keep dipping into it when time allows but don't expect any amazing pages for a while....
