I started by wetting the paper after very lightly sketching in the basic shapes, then dropped in azo yellow, cad. yellow and quin. coral, then added some greens for background while the paper was drying, which left some good lost edges. Now I gradually built up the rose shapes with glazes....
See the ugly man in the rose on the left? Now I had to get rid of him! I also worked on the background.
The ugly man is starting to vanish! I gradually shaped the roses by adding shadows.
Sick of yellow, I did a little green leaf and the rose bud on the right
And this is where it stands now, the roses are taking shape nicely!

"I love your roses!!"
Cheers, Sadami
Your roses look marvelous!!!
Well for hating them, these are shaping up beautifully. And the yellow is glorious. I normally do em in pinks.
Why do you challange yourself like this? I think it's awful to paint something we hate!Dont punish yourself!Yes, the roses are taking shape nicely, but it's so much better when we paint things we love
Thank you Sadami :)
Cynthia, I'm happy so far, thank you!
Helen I seem to have a liking for yellow flowers at the moment, they really inspire me! Thank you :)
Anamaria, I love flowers in general, but occasionally it does me good to step out of my comfort zone and paint something that I usually avoid. On this occasion I saw the roses and was drawn to them even though roses are normally the last thing I would choose to paint! I suppose the message is to face your fears, it might not be as bad as you imagine.
I love them too, Diana
When I see how you put those roses on your paper - so beautifully - I can't imagine you hate them!
. Gorgeous!I like it
My eye kept going to the blue violet, which was beautiful, until you added more colors. The colors are just so wonderful!
The painting is turning out really beautiful! It is so exciting to have a glimpse at your process. Thank you!
Looking beautiful--the color, the light!
